There were so many lives touched by 9/11 that every group wants to have their say in the rebuilding process. This kind of decision by committee is making progress difficult, resulting in the opposite of the message originally intended.

No matter how nice the building they they'll built, it will only remind the pain of those who lost their love ones.

You cannot please every group, and the cost over rides are huge. They should just build the building without trying to please everyone. By not building something the Terrorists really do win.

Man, that comment really hits home, doesn't it?
That says a lot about our society and culture. We need to change, if we want to lead again. We need to simplify our decision-making processes. It's as if we have taken all the good things about project management and have tossed them and have kept all the bad things.

Special interests? Steel in the last 5 years has almost doubled. Copper, aluminum and almost every other metal has also. Labor costs have also gone through the roof but in that world, you're dealing with a very special worker. Are you talking about the green building guys who never seem to find a cheap solution? Who or what are the special interests?

No, I'm talking about all the things the special interest groups want to reflect in the WTC building. They've scrapped the designs several times because of indecision and discord. The various groups want to be represented and don't care if it delays or costs more in the rebuilding.

So, let's see how much steel worker labor have gone through the roof in the last 5 years. To increase accuracy, we'll use the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the state of New York:
2001 New York Steel Workers - Mean Hourly Rate - $30.54
2007 New York Steel Workers - Mean Hourly Rate - $33.44
Yikes, that's through the roof!
Percentage of increase over the 6 years - 9.5%
Average yearly increase over the 6 years - 1.58%
That's criminal.

With all of the money that poured into New York in the name of helping, why not start a public subscription. It would take time, but I suspect the American people would support the building of something large, grand and incredibly annoying to the Islamic Nazis who destroyed the first ones.

This country is famous for too many hands in the mix. Complain, complain, complain. Build it. Write something on it about how those who died and survived in it were punished by needless violence, that in the end solved absolutely nothing. You will still have those who can't deal with any of it. That would be their choice. A building won't change what happened in the least.

A more realistic time schedule for rebuilding is NOT the same as scrapping the rebuilding.
In fact, tremendous progress has been, and is being made toward the completion of this highly complex and highly political project.
In view of the technological and political problems that have been surmounted, the progress toward rebuilding is phenomenal.

Until or if or when they build a memorial, why not just a Memorial Park with flowers, grass, flags and a plaque to honor and commemorate the victims?

Good. I STILL think they should rebuild what was destroyed, but, make each of them one story higher, the last story would be dedicated to those who died in the original towers. North Tower would have the names of those, South Tower, the names of those. I say, rebuild them and hang banners between them that mock terrorists. Banners that would read, "Does Quran 9:1-5, 29, and 30 sound like it belongs in OUR Time?" "People flew planes into buildings inspired by a book that says the sun 'runs to a RESTING place!?!'" And, my favorite, "Those who flew planes into us LAST time, believe a saying that the sun has to ask permission of Allah to actually RISE again." Of course, only the brave could work in them then, and, if they did, they'd be our heros.

One of the other posters here was right, to many people trying to tell them what to build. What it should look like, how the memorial should be thought of, etc. Granted it is the sight of a terrible act of terror, but I think we need to stop play politics and build something there. Forget about saving an outdoor memorial or anything. Use the whole foot print and build the worlds tallest building. And make sure they have a new architect that uses concrete and build a solid building.
