Please let GM Chairman and CEO Richard Wagoner know that Americans want hybrid technology used to its fullest potential.

The point of the article is that they're going to use Hybrid technology. Only they're going to use it to boost power instead of increase fuel efficiency.
So let them know you want them to increase fuel efficiency instead of focusing on cars that make men with small pee-pees feel bigger.

GM's hybrids do boost fuel economy. You don't really expect a 6000lb vehicle with a 10,000lb towing capacity to get 60mpg do you?
Hybrid technology ads a significant amount of weight to vehicles, weight is one of the most important factors to fuel economy. If I can get 20% better fuel economy in a lightweight car using hybrid technology and 20% better fuel economy in a heavy hybrid vehicle, which one would save the most fuel compared to their non hybrid counterparts?

Dear GM,
Thank you for recognizing that some environmentally conscious hybrid owners tool around town with cargo or perhaps pull a trailer. Yes, it would be nice if we were all sniveling, scrawny, whiny little tree-hugging tofu eaters, but that's just not the case.
PS...I could use some advice on how to scrape a Prius from the rear wheel well of my Escalade.

I believe this opinion piece misrepresents GM's position on hybrids. GM has opted to use hybrids in their large SUVs, where they can get the biggest improvement in mpg. And the cost premium for a hybrid is a smaller percentage of the overall cost of these vehicles. I've never owned and never will own one of those big SUVs, but I do understand their rationale.

Who needs hybrid technology? Gas and Electric. Just go electric.
TESLA:
0-60 in 4 seconds (faster than a stock corvette).
Top end: 135mph.
No gas at all.

Notice the hybrid adds all around the article. So the writer thinks he speaks for all Americans? "Americans want hybrid technology used to its fullest potential" I don't think so.

When Cadillac and Escalade are coming out with hybrids you know there is something wrong! It's time we realize that we can't always have luxury and be "green" at the same time - we have to sacrifice if we want to make a difference. My vote goes for the Smart Cars.
