Bob Filner blasts VA, says new suicide commission "is not action" »

Peake announced the creation of 2 panels to recommend improvements to the Department concerning suicide prevention, research and education. The VA can set up 5 commissions - yet the real problem goes unresolved. Veterans cannot wait for another blue ribbon panel to come out yet again with another report.

Rep. Filner knows what needs to be done, now let him fund it. As Chair of the House Committee for Veteran's Affairs, Filner has been part of the problem. Now that he is calling for solutions, it would be perfect if he demonstrated some leadership.
The treatment of veterans, long inadequate, has simply gotten worse and worse over the past four decades. Promises made long ago have been long forgotten, and more immediate needs seem less immediate than the need for each member of Congress to get their earmarks in. There are few areas where the performance of both political parties has been more abysmal.
