The common use of the term Hajis to describe all Iraqis by Amerian troops is a source of growing resentment and prejudice.

These kinds of incidences described in this article are not isolated manisfestations; they are the result of bigotry and stereoptypes, which are often used to justify all kinds of misconduct.

Within in the hearts of all concernced, we all know that our nation does not belong in Iraq. WE are there to rape their country of its valuable oil and to exploit the war on terrorisim for the motives of greed and power.

To belittle the Iraqi people and to dehumanize them is the unfortunate consequence of this ill-conceived war. To punish one poor misguided fool for the crimes of our leadership may appease some, but does it bring justice to the people of Iraq and our exploited military?

Where is Justice in this country? Ever wondered why muslims hate Americans. Open your eyes.

This is what Bush's foreign policy has brought upon this country. Now he calls them terrorists for minding their own business in their own country before he decided to invade and occupy.

He calls Democrats Nazi lovers when they are trying harder than ever to end this and restore America's prestige. You know the two who supported Bush for his comments? The flip flop hypocrite John McCain and that scum bag from CT, Joe Loserman!!!!!!!!!!!

Ever imagine these two scums in charge in the White House?

Actually, this could have been a wonderful opportunity to teach people about freedom of speech. Whether you or I like the act, and whether or not you or I would engage in such an act, doesn't this really fall in the category of "turn the other cheek"?

You know, it's pretty ironic that we are in Iraq to allegedly to teach the people there how democracy works, but the basis of democracy is free speech and freedom of religion.

Why is it we can go to Iraq and shoot someone there and call it justified, but we're too weenie to use this as a perfect example, rightfully or wrongfully, of standing up for that soldier's right to shoot a Koran under the American democratic, freedom of speech model.

I'm waiting for one of you to explain that to me.

Now, I would never shoot a Koran because it is hurtful to another person, but I would also defend someone else's right to do it under the democratic principles of free speech.

I tend to see it in a similar fashion. The act was disgusting and, being a soldier, he deserves to be reassigned at the very least because he is showing an inability to work in that area of the world, but its his right to do this.

Koranagirl, I understand where you are coming from. But the fact is, we are not in Iraq to instill democracy. It would be presumptious of us, a country of 250 yrs, to think we can change a civilization that has been around for thousands of years. Democracy can never, and will never be forced by the barrel of a gun.

Now, back to the topic at hand. The soldiers right to free speech is stricken once he/she dons the uniform. Now, that's irony.

How can we ever teach true democracy when we aren't practicing it there. What the US govt did was wrong, simply apologizing for the act. They should have said that while they apologize that a soldier did something hurtful to others, under the principles of democracy, he had right to do so, without fear of reprisal by the state. That is the true beauty of democracy.

For a great book on peace and love, and even free speech and the right to use it, try the Korana of Mother Goddess, available on LuLu dot com, ebay or write me for a free ecopy.

Yes, and you can even shoot at this book, and I would defend your right to do it, providing it was in a safe area, designed for shooting, and your firearm was registered.

Blessings to you all

Isn't it better to shoot at books than people?

you know, it says repeatedly in the koran that you can't just take some of it and reject the other parts that are easier or those you don't like. so if we are in iraq to enact democratic principles, do we just use some of those and throw the rest away--the ones we don't like or the ones that are difficult.

isn't that more offensive to the koran than shooting it?

just asking. i think i have more questions than answers on this one.

Freedom of speech: Shoot the koran, burn the flag. Take your pick.

Seems to me.. It would be a great way to get sent home..

so if you have a relative over there SEND THEM A KORAN TO DESECRATE..

"Strike off their [infidel's] heads. Strike off their finger-tips! â;¦ because they defied God and his Apostle [Muhammad]." (Sura 8:12-13)

"Make war on them [infidels] until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme." (Sura 2:193)

"Seize them and put them to death wherever you find them." (Sura 4:89)

"Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you." (Sura 9:123)

"When the sacred months [Ramadan] are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them; besiege them; and lie in ambush everywhere for them. If they repent [convert to Islam] and take to prayer and render the alms levy, allow them to go their way." (Sura 9:5)

I think a few shots at these versus is in line.

With verses like that, PLUS verses that tell a Muslim he can lie (3:28 and 16:106) so he can ACT like a Rabbi on a bus in Tel Aviv carrying a certain type of suit-case, hey, target practice sounds too good for this book.

why blaming on 'this book' if u never study it? all u do is reading 'the book' with overwhelming hatred in your head

Why my hatred toward Islam you may ask, ver fy? Since you probably won't believe my reasons, how about if I present a web site "right from the horse's mouth" by an Arab who seems to have miraculously escaped Islam:

'miraculously' escaped Islam? do u really think it is miraculous to be able to be non-Islam? well, you surely are living in a very small box. fancy to get out? stop watching the world from the internet, and go to see the REAL world. if u really want to see life, stop seeing the world by projecting your mind in it and go to southeast asia, find a country named Indonesia (which happens to be a country with most muslim citizen) and see if u can find a mass murdering in the name of Islam.

really, Mutainia, u need help to face ur phobia toward Islam.

Maybe the Muslims in Indonesia have Asian language Qurans where surah 9:1-5, 29 and 30 are translated to actually sound like history and NOT something that sounds like a threat to world peace when translated in the three English versions of the Quran (Pickthal, Shakir, Ali) that I'm familiar with. I mean, IF the Quran can now be translated to mean that the earth is shaped like an ostrich egg when all three known English versions say the earth is "spread out like a carpet", hey, I actually see some hope for the world here.

if people like u stop messing with other religion, THAT'S hope for the world
