May 2, 2008, 6:27 p.m.Take a quick glimpse into a side of the war that the western media will never show you. War is an abomination. Not the heroic thing that old world war II movies and Hollywood imbedded into the American psyche. "WAR is HELL!"

May 2, 2008, 6:49 p.m.I cannot believe that a major news like this is not even remotely mentioned in CNN or CTV news. Innocent people are being killed by the US army and American people don't even know about it. Why the secrecy? If the US army believes that this is an acceptable side effect of war then they should have no fear of mentioning and let the people decide if it worths it.

The story might have been reported, just differently. That's what the spin machine is for. It was probably reported as "dozens of insurgents killed in Sadr city." This reporter said that perhaps 10% of the casualties were insurgents, so the MSM report could have been the truth, just not the whole truth. They rarely report the "collateral damage." Nobody seems to be counting the Iraqis who die and get maimed as a "side-effect" of this occupation.

May 3, 2008, 9:57 a.m.Maliki, meanwhile, has vowed to disband the Mahdi Army and on Wednesday even accused the militiamen of using civilians as "human shields" while fighting the security forces.
"Criminals and lawless gangs are using human shields in Sadr City ... They are following the steps of the Baathist regime," Maliki said at a press conference earlier Wednesday.
"They are trying to gain sympathy but they are using the lies and the values of the former regime."
Human Shields? Would they (Terrorist elements and insurgent groups) really do that? No say it aint so. Considering they have used mentally challenged individuals to carry our suicide missions I guess it could be a remote possibility.

May 3, 2008, 12:02 p.m.No one here is disputing that.
The POINT is - that is NOT the whole picture or the whole story.
Of course the media will air a story like this because it favors the Bush administration agenda to show that the Maliki government is supposedly strong and is taking action and is working to take control of the violence and the country.
But you have to remember that Maliki's government was picked by the Bush administration. Yes, people voted, but Maliki - like Bush - can 'appoint' people to government positions. Maliki's administration is rampant with corruption.
Also - don't forget that the Iraqi army is still VERY FAR from being able to function on its own. Even during the Sadr City fighting, many of those Iraqi soldiers didn't fight or didn't show up or ended up being on the side of Muqtada al Sadr or other insurgent groups.

In other words, only a moron would take it as factual. I see there are quite a few gullible types around here. Pretty obvious the "source" is an anti- Iraqi gov't, anti U.S. site. Thanks Jovial that's what I thought!
Did you watch the video?
Have you ever heard the phrase attention to detail?
Did you notice that the small child with a "chest wound"?
The blood is right in the center, right over the heart, did ya see that?
Did ya notice the small child with a "chest wound" had no dust on his/her body?
The video is trying to make the claim that this carnage is due to bombing. Bombing makes dust, lots of it. I find it hard to believe that a child with a chest wound would be washed clean before any medical treatment for a chest wound.

Odd, ya think?
Did ya notice at 1:03 in the video a wounded man on a litter is being rushed into hospital for medical treatment?
Did ya notice he also had no dust on him, his clothing the litter, nada, none.
The message the video it trying to portray is that these are people wounded in the relentless pounding by US air strikes.
Did ya notice the guys carrying the litter? No dust, in fact their clothing looked bran new cleaned and pressed. It even looks like bran new shoes as well! Odd
Did ya notice at 1:11 to 1:13 the guy carrying left rear corner of the coffinâ;¦..is the same guy shirt and all that was on the litter! Same shirt without the blood.

Clashes in Sadr City, a Shiite enclave in the capital, has killed 67 Iraqis and wounded 243 since Sunday, and nine U.S. troops have died in Baghdad during the same period.
The Sadr City fighting reflects the intra-Shiite power struggle in Iraq between Iraqi security forces dominated by the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq and al-Sadr's Mehdi Army militia.
The upsurge in violence between Iraqi security forces and the Mehdi Army started with a March 25 government offensive in parts of the Shiite city of Basra in southern Iraq. It targeted what the government calls criminal elements.

May 3, 2008, 5:58 p.m.Why DID we go into Iraq? Who exactly do you think the 'enemy' is in Iraq?
I think you should tell us, because ALL of the justification to invade Iraq from the Bush administration was a bunch of lies.
There were no terrorists in Iraq before we invaded.
There certainly are some terrorists there NOW, because the administration totally screwed up the rebuilding and the containment of violence after they took Saddam out of power.
No one here is "defending terrorists". The insurgents (not necessarily 'terrorists') are definitely causing a lot of death and carnage in Iraq, and they are to blame. They do it because they want control.
Over 90% of the insurgents in Iraq are LOCALS. They are fighting each other - when Saddam's regime was removed, ALL control of those factions was relinquished.
The Iraqi religious factions all want control of the country. They are fighting each other for that control, and they are fighting us because they want US, the occupiers, OUT.

There was plenty of evidence that Iraq had NO WMDs by the time Bush took office, let alone when he invaded.
Here is just ONE bit of documentation for you.
Q&A: William Scott Ritter, former United Nations weapons inspector
http://www.memphisflyer.com/memphis/Content?oid...
"The U.S. used the inspection process and the unique access the inspectors had to gather intelligence on Saddam Hussein's security. That process exposed a link between U.S. intelligence-gathering activities and the work of the inspectors. That made the Iraqis very distrustful of the inspection process.
In 1998, I protested to the United States that their interference was destroying the credibility of this operation. In the last year of my work, 14 of my inspections were stopped, not by the Iraqis but by the United States government. That's why I resigned."

The REPUBLICANS dissed whatever Clinton did, because they were SO obsessed with trying to "get" Clinton on something to try to prove he was "bad", that they IGNORED the security problems and the growing threat. They actually accused Clinton of "wagging the dog" when he ordered air strikes on Afghanistan.
The REPUBLICANS in the 1990s paid no attention the growing terrorist threat. Then, when W took over, he was handed VOLUMES of intelligence data on Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. What did he do with it? NOTHING!

May 8, 2008, 8:56 a.m.It took 5 years for anyone to mention Clinton's name in relation to 9-11. Face it Bill dropped the ball! He was too busy getting his balls blown by an intern. That isn't a conspiracy, that is a fact! He turned a blind eye while we had a storm heading in our direction.

May 4, 2008, 8:08 p.m.You cannot "hang that banner" on Clinton, although you surely keep trying. Funny how you can continue to defend President Bush when he has LIED so much to the American people.
That 'story' that Clinton 'had' Bin Laden but didn't 'move' to capture him was MADE UP by the neocons. That situation never happened and there is NO documentation to back it up. There is plenty of documentation - especially the 9/11 commission report - that DEBUNKS that fantasy.

May 3, 2008, 6:48 p.m.Yes war is hell, and yes we do have heroes. Brave men/women do things that would make your hair stand on end. If everybody here would put more energy in the effort to win this war, then to b*tch about it, it would had ended 2 years ago. You don't have to like GW, but make it known that we want to win this win not lose it. And quit posting comments about the military being thugs, murderers or victims(not you personally, but other stories)Soldiers are the first ones to say they want to war to end but let's win this one before we come home.

May 3, 2008, 6:58 p.m.We're fighting the population of a country. I don't think we can kill enough of them, and still try to hold on to the moral high ground. Sometimes you have to back-up and realize what you are doing isn't right and cease. We quit in Vietnam, but it didn't turn out that bad 30 years later. The Iraqi's can eventually become our friends if we stop killing so many of them.

Nothing ever happens in a vaccum. That is the problem ,Americans are so short sighted. You need to study history. You will never know were you are going if you don't know where you can from.

May 4, 2008, 1:03 p.m.Try reviewing history yourself. Vietnam happens to be doing pretty good these days. In spite of the claims that communism would spread all over Asia and then over here, it NEVER happened and Vietnam has LONG since recovered from that "war".

The Iraqis are our allies, the terrorist infested in that poor country are both of our enemies. I am just glad they are there and not here or Central America, or Grenada anymore!!

May 4, 2008, 1:01 p.m.The only terrorists that have "infiltrated" Iraq are the ones that entered that country AFTER we had invaded and then trashed it and its people.
Over 90% of the Iraqi insurgents are LOCALS, fighting each other for control and fighting us because they want the occupiers OUT of their country.
What the U.S. has done to Iraq is a PRIME invitation to bitter Muslims to become terrorists. Thanks to the Bush administration, the country of Iraq is in the worst shape ever. They have little to no clean water, little to no electricity, little to no sanitation, over 50% unemployment, food shortages, sectarian violence, and over 3 million displaced refugees. The mortality rate for children under 5 is the highest in that country's history, and women now have NO rights whatsoever and are being kidnapped and murdered just for not wearing a veil or for attempting to work for a living.

May 3, 2008, 7:35 p.m.What exactly would be winning this war, Codi. Would it be when we make Iraq exactly like America, is that it? We are not going to lose the war, what we are going to do is the right thing. We are going to admit we mistakenly attacked a sovereign nation and leave it. We are not going to offer to pay for our mistakes because we can't, but we are going to apologize to the dismay and disdain of the rest of the world. On top of that, we are going to hand Bush, Cheney, and all their cronies over to an International tribunal to be tried and convicted of war crimes. Are you one of their cronies, codi?

May 3, 2008, 6:35 p.m.No - no blind loyalty. That is NOT democracy. That is Hitler.
I have EVERY right to question my government. That IS democracy.
You do not have to like me for questioning my government, and I don't care if you don't.
I will NOT support our "leadership" (Bush) when they have lied to me and deceived me and have WASTED my tax dollars and have participated in the unnecessary killing of our soldiers and innocent people.
What EXACTLY is it that Clinton said that was so offensive? He sure as hell didn't start any unjustified wars.

May 3, 2008, 7:28 p.m.Codi, that is the trouble. You don't know anything about the right way to fight war or win it. Yes, you are right that it is wrong to make our military into murdering thugs. Some are, but the greatest overwhelming majority are just serving their country like I did in the Vietnam era, but if you want to come out a winner as serving your country in this war, then, I don't think I would be skirting the truth about the war. This war in Iraq was never about the terrorist and was based upon multiple lies to the true patriots of this country. The civil war now being waged between the Maliki government and Al-Sadr's armies is civil. This war will never completely be won, if History tells us anything. The video makes a good point of why. We are occupying a sovereign nation for no reason. Get over it. Stop buying Bush's and the military's propaganda.

May 3, 2008, 6:17 p.m.I am showing people the damage that's being done in the name of the war on terror. I didn't write this story. I just dug it out of hiding and put it out there for people that normally wouldn't dig that deep. Sue me. a lot of the people you call terrorists are just ordinary citizens that want an occupying army out. They are tired of us meddling in their affairs. Why can't you take a look at that without getting personally offended?

May 3, 2008, 6:33 p.m.Because you don't know what it feels like to see your countrymen complain and hide behind the liberties that I have defended. Because this is the greatest nation in the world and we have an enemy that wants us to fall. Do you think if we were to leave , they would leave us alone? Thinking like that gave us 9-11. What will it take to get it through your skull, a mushroom cloud!! Islamic terrorism is the greatest threat to this nation then, fascism, communism combined.

May 4, 2008, 1:11 p.m.Read the transcript of the man who was interviewed on 60 minutes recently, who was Saddam's primary 'interrogator' after he was captured.
Saddam was playing a shell game alright, but not the one you try to imply.
Saddam ultimately said that he had destroyed almost all of their "WMD" type weapons long before Bush launched the invasion. He said he really thought that Bush would not invade his country.
Also, the weapons inspectors were hindered more by the U.N. and by the U.S. than by anyone in Iraq. The inspectors were proving that there were, indeed, no WMD in Iraq. That was not what Bush wanted to hear, so he pulled them.

May 4, 2008, 3:08 p.m.Saddam kept up the ruse in fear Iran would invade. He still had the intent to re-start the program AFTER he got the sanctions lifted. Saddam could had stopped the invasion at anytime. No one could prove a thing. We were not the only ones that thought he had them. Our hand was forced, invade and we might or might not find something, or continue with the BS game of U.N. resolutions,(taking his word) that was only hurting the people of Iraq and not him.
What no one thinks of is , his sons take power. And they have a new re-started WMD program. This whole cylce starts over again.

May 4, 2008, 8:12 p.m.Saddam had NO WMD and had no intention of "restarting" it.
We WERE the only ones that thought Iraq had WMDs. Bush was "forced" by NO ONE! That is totally inane and ludicrous.
Here is some information for you - from someone who WAS a weapons inspector in Iraq.

Q&A: William Scott Ritter,
former United Nations weapons inspector
The U.S. used the inspection process and the unique access the inspectors had to gather intelligence on Saddam Hussein's security.
That's why I resigned.
