Massive gunbattles break out in Tijuana; 13 dead, 9 wounded

Do No Evil – Massive gunbattles broke out between suspected drug traffickers who fired at each other while speeding down heavily populated streets of this violent border city early Saturday, killing 13 people and wounding nine. All of the dead were believed to be drug traffickers, possibly rival members of the same cartel...

First Chicago, now Tijuana. Iraq is sounding better all the time.

Iraq better? haha... Compared to Iraq, Tijuana is a walk in the park. The city has a murder rate that is actually pretty comparable to a US city of equal population size. Which is why so many people visit it each day/year... Especially Americans, who visit it by the 10's of thousands daily.

I mean afterall, The city is the second most tourist visited location in the entire planet.. More people travel to TJ than London, Paris, Tokyo etc etc.. Only NYC has more tourists.

Actually it's no better than the old Medellin cocaine cartel in Columbia with now dead drug lord/bad boy Pablo Escobar was at the helm in the 80's. I wonder if the feds are gonna step in, and quash this little drug war as well.

avatar
Reply

Not much longer. Those "tourists" mostly are Americans legally crossing the border for a night or a weekend - and maybe to pick of a kilo of cocaine. When's your next trip? lol

avatar
Reply

American tourism to Mexico has actually declined substantially in recent years due to crime, kidnappings, etc.

T.J. is a toilet, which is why young people go there to be entertained by its depravity. People don't go to NYC, London and Paris to watch someone have sex with a donkey. The same can't be said of Tijuana.

Some of that violence and way of life is bound to spill over into this country unless we get a handle on controlling our borders. Parts of LA are already like living in Tijuana.

At least they are only killing drug dealers. Chicago gangs often kill innocent people. We have people saying our prisons are full. Well, what should we do with these people who settle any, and all disputes with guns? I don't believe law abiding people should have to give up their guns, because society refuses to control its criminal element.

Wrong again Ani.."At least they are only killing drug dealers."

You are so naive, check the storys of the mexican drug cartels and make that same same post again.

avatar

I'm pretty sure she is referring to this specific article where it says the killings are attributed to rival members within the same drug cartel. But, you are right in that it spills over. Lots of police, local officials and anyone willing to step up against the cartels are targeted.

Your article indeed says, "All the dead were believed to be drug traffickers...rival members of the same cartel" which is the good part of this whole sordid story.

But the more shootouts there are, the more likelihood of innocent lives being lost.

Aidenag may well be right in the popularity of this city as a daytrip destination, but too much more of this kind of outrage and that may change.

I can tell you about some wild nights and a whole lot of tekillya, when i was stationed in San Diego.lol, but it isn't the same now.

I'm sure you can, bd!!

(the thread is dying so I can safely confess that "tekillya" is beyond me. Good toothache cure though!)

There has been a large number of well-publicized disappearances of women in Mexican border towns like T.J. They find them tortured too death.

aniokly, the removal of capitol and corporal punishment has given us what society is today. Society has made it OK to abort children but save the dregs of man and look where it has gotten us.

"...the removal of capitol and corporal punishment has given us what society is today."

To some extent I agree, but studies have indicated capital punishment doesn't really deter crime (although I sure don't have a problem with it other than it costs more than life without parole).

I lay the blame right squarely of the feat of failed liberal policies that created a nanny-state and made the gov't the main provider in so many "homes." It removed the need for traditional households in which a man and a woman married and raised children and stifled personal initiative in favor of a gov't check.

When kids grow up in single-family homes with no father-figures working 40 hours a week and giving a firm hand of guidance, too many wind up in gangs and idolizing the wrong element -- criminals and drug dealers. Even the "rev" Wright would agree with the latter part of that statement.

libs, I whole heartly agree with your post.

There aren't too many dead recidivists.

TJ is a cesspool. Fewer and fewer Americans are going to Tijuana because it has become so dangerous. Kidnappings, extortion, drug gangs, you name it and Americans are often the targets, if they are there. If you live in San Diego and your Tahoe gets stolen, just go to TJ and you will find someone on the TJ police dept. driving it.

I will never go to Mexico again.

Understandable sentiment, for the chaotic US-Mexico borderlands, rife with all the wrong people, but the country is huge. Head for the mountains south of Mexico city, or the gulf-coastlands up towards Yucatan.

I hear Baja California's special, too.

There is not much I can say about this without getting myself banned. Effing mexicans.

Come on Tang, say it how you feel it.Even though my wife is hispanic, and i believe in legal, repeat LEGAL immigration. You should read the papers up here of the mexicans that just come here for a better life.At our expense.

Nice of them to save on the cost or prison, wasn't it ??

As long as they keep killing each other, sod it, let 'em have at it !!!!!

avatar

That's pretty much the attitude here, DM (Japan). The overwhelming proportion of illegally held guns are in the hands of hoodlums and in their periodic shoot-outs they sometimes kill one another. No loss.

But what is the huge tragedy is when an innocent person dies, caught in the crossfire or in a case of mistaken identity (happened recently).

This is going on in many of the border towns

Nuevo Laredo - Drug trafficking wars are scaring American tourists away -- and eviscerating the economy

Dangers of the Texas-Mexico Border Counties are allotting what little funding they do have to cover the expense of autopsies and to recover and rescue people who get caught between the war that surrounds border towns

Spring breakers fear Mexico border town

Many students abandon 'Two Nation Vacation' because of safety worries. The presence of the Mexican army in border towns like Matamoros may dissuade some of the spring break crowd from day trips and nightly booze runs across the border. There are gun battles between soldiers and drug cartels in Mexican border cities

Those are just a few of the stories. If you live in a border state, local news cover the stories. The national press only occasionally report them

avatar
Reply

The national press ignores them because they don't want Americans to think that these people have a criminal element, and they want to keep our borders open for cheap labor.

baddadd - don't know what paper you read but it was all over the papers here in NY

How can this possibly happen in Mexico? It's illegal to own guns or ammo there. Don't those drug dealers know they're breaking the law? lol

Why isn't this pinned? Surely its pin worthy when we currently have Prince pinned.

avatar
Reply

LOL yeah, Prince on the "recommended stories" list. Hey, Prince is a great musician, and I love some of his music. But a top story? Never.

Aidenag and Neophile would die choking on their vomit if Propeller ever "pinned" a story I submitted. They do their best to ignore and downplay anything I post, anyway.

Unlike what you probably think. Myself, Neophile, and all the other scouts, have no involvement in Pinning submissions, banning users, removing comments, or anything else that seems to get blamed on us...

If it were me, i would have pinned this submit to be fully honest, it was a big story...

Agree with your first paragraph.

Not at all sure on your second para, though, so I'll ignore it.

(Can't give half votes on here, so you get the pos. Very good thread).

Ok, I admit I don't agree with libsRfunny all that much. But kudo's to him for making some good posts as of late.

This article should be on the "anchor's recommend" slot though...

IMO.

Drug traffickers? Well I have no problem w/that. As long as no innocent bystanders were killed.
