I have one: Stop referring to felons as "convicted felons" for Christ's sake!!! It's freaking redundant and bad Grammar.

That comment isn't directed at the Propeller crowd. Just infuriates me when I see the so plainly obvious degradation of journalism.

What's next: unnamed "sources"? Oh, wait, the NY Times thrives on that. lol

of course the article itself is not worthy of a comment..LMAO

There was a good post last year about the growng number of open White Supremacists being let in.

American soldiers of color now legitimately have to worry about being shot in the back by their fellow American skinheads.

The Decider knows best.

That's OK. A lot of Conservatives on propeller have convinced me that all God wants us to do is kill, Kill, KILL! Can't Keep GOD waiting...

God Bless Us Everyone.

Now, now... If it makes libsr feel a tiny bit less embarrassed and disgraced by the horrific damage and destruction Bush has done to our military and our country, who are we to judge? Let's just be sure to keep our eyes peeled for such attention to accuracy and detail the next time libsr pre-convicts the Clintons or anyone else from the left of crimes (when they haven't been questioned, arrested, investigated, or charged of anything). This should be a hoot. ;-P

"I have one: Stop referring to felons as "convicted felons" for Christ's sake!!! It's freaking redundant and bad Grammar. What's next: unnamed "sources"? Oh, wait, the NY Times thrives on that."

Well, as long as you're correcting grammatical errors, you might as well start with correcting some of your own.

1) The word "grammar" is not a proper noun and doesn't require capitalization.

2) Your subject-verb agreement also needs improvement. In the sentence "What's next: unnamed 'sources'?" the word "sources" is plural so the verb must be plural also. It should be rewritten "What are next: unnamed 'sources'?"

3) Your last sentence is a run-on. The word "wait" as you used it is an imperative and a sentence by itself. It should be rewritten "Oh, wait. The NY Times thrives on that."

Writing with good grammar doesn't require a journalism degree; it only requires elementary school English.

OMG. Every time I think the Iraq disaster can't get any worse for our country. Convicted FELONS. This is what it's come to. Wow...

avatar
Reply

Whatever it takes...I'd rather they go then some nice young innocent kid who never got into any trouble. Let the convicts earn the waivers and amnesty. You want it. Fight for it, and if necessary die for it. It's for at least a worthy cause. You'll be doing something positive for once in you're life, and for your country.

The problem is that actual criminals will rape the Iraqi women, etc.

Not a real good thing.

Just wait till they and the Blackwater goons are let loose on the streets of America by the thousands. No job, no skill but that of suppression and death. And a Supreme Court to back them up.

I'd hate to see any decent person enlist and if a female forget it. women have two strikes where men only have one danger from there fellow enlistees

avatar

Every woman I've talked to either in-country or upon return says they feared their own 'brothers' in the battlefield much more than any of the 'terrorists.' They feared them so much they had to pee in bottles in their locked rooms and felt that even going to the latrines with partners (women) to watch over them wasn't safe enough. When our soldiers have to fear being raped by one of their 'own', you know something is horribly wrong with the basic morals of those in the service.

avatar

So because the "basic morals of those in the service." are fighting your little book of horrors the think you hate the most about the people in the service?

Sorry.. Could you ask that again in English?

You know he is lying about talking to women in the military, don't you? He read a liberal blog or two attacking the military and accusing it of being staffed by rapists and misogynists.

You can claim that all you want, but I had multiple people come to me under my command when I still served who shared this with me and I regularly counsel people for the VA who've gone through this. Let me know when you've actually talked with people instead of stuck your head in the sand regarding the "finest" America has to offer.

You got to be one of the few who actually think it's a good idea to have felons in the military. Even those in the military do not want a felon covering their back and sharing a sand dune with them.

avatar
Reply

I love this idea. LOL The only reason many of these people are in a position where they'd consider joining the military is because they can't get a job (because of their criminal record). We won't give them civilian jobs but we'll put high powered rifles in their hands (and then make them jump through hoops to collect vet benefits after they get injured and wind up with PTSD). Wow...Gotta love the wisdom in that. Who cannot see more mall, college campus, and school massacres coming out of this? Unbelievable.

It's nothing new..it's been done in WWI and II.

Really? How about some documentation for that?

avatar

Too lazy to do it yourself? Here's a study published by Northwestern University sociologists regarding felons in the military during World War II. But, you can't get it unless you have actual academic access. I can get it ;) ...

Brilliant ... post something no one can access and tout that as documentation?

Nice try ...

If you want to dispute me bubs. You research, and do it yourself to prove me wrong. Anyway, you neg me for not wanting good, honest citizens over in a war rather than hardened criminals who have a chance to do something productive for once in they're lives to make a difference for the better, and serve they're country? Can you tell me the logic in that?

(& I'd never thought I'd agree with libsRfunny on anything! But I do here! & Thanks libs.)

YOU are the one that made the statement about WWII. So YOU should be able to back it up.

I did NOT neg you for not wanting good, honest citizens in our military over hardened criminals. That is not what you said.

You said that you would rather have criminals go to war instead of honest kids, and let the convicts earn the waivers and the amnesty.

The problem with that premise is that people who join the military are supposed to have a loyalty to the country, take an OATH to serve and protect, and who are TRUSTED with others' lives along with being given dangerous weapons to use.

While I am for anyone getting a "second chance", you need to check some recent statistics (reported on armytimes.com among other sites) that unlawful activity and GANG activity is on the RISE in the military.

I just can't quite trust folks like that to defend me any my country ....

avatar
Reply

Well said, but I don't feel it is incumbent upon me to oblige you on something that I've read in an article in a library years ago. I was just stating a historical fact common to most but you I suppose. That type of mode is still in use today to those that still want it. State Pens still will offer it to those that want to serve, and they have a great filtration process to weed out the hard cases from the rest of population. Plus I have stated above that:"criminals who have a chance to do something productive for once in they're lives to make a difference for the better, and serve they're country" That went over your head I guess. To them I as referring to.

In nowhere near the numbers we're recruiting now. That IS something new.

More trouble for innocent Iraqi girls and women. More sex maniacs on the loose to be scared to death about being raped and murdered. Worst, these felons will never get their day in court under Bush's diplomatic immunity law that applies to these people while they are in Iraq "defending" America !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Looks like the puppets who call themselves the Government in Iraq are least worried as long as their deep pockets get filled every month for "doing" and "saying" what the Bush team wants.

avatar

Sorry to repeat you above.

Good points.

If a felon couldn't follow the laws of our country what makes the military think they would follow their rules and regulations? Training felons with advanced weapons and explosives and then releasing them back to the public is like training foxes to kill even better then releasing them in a hen house.

avatar

Looking at the very small numbers of people involved and the types of crimes that they committed, the wavier system that allows these particular individuals to join might be quite reasonable.

Also when thinking about the severities of the crimes that might have been committed by these people you should consider the very high percent of the population that is incarcerated in the U.S. relative to other countries

What is problematical is that the military is stretched so thin that the wavier system is used more frequently now than in the past.

I used to work with a guy who claimed his success with women was due to lowering his standards. Looks like the Army stole his idea.

It used to look good to have military experience on your record. Now it might be best to hide that fact.

avatar

I wonder how many of these felons are going to go straight from the Army into Blackwater?

avatar
Reply

After reading the article, I find myself agreeing with Quackpot above.

Not what I expected.

I do wonder though about what may be a greater deterrent to reenlistment.

Blackwater or a GI Bill.

avatar
Reply

You don't suppose they might take into consideration what that felony was?

On another point we have vets coming back that aren't even citizens. I don't know but if they aren't granted citizenship when they return, that's simply unconscionable.
