The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ended some years ago. In Iraq, the war ended with the fall of Saddam Hussein's government; in Afghanistan, with the fall of the Taliban government. What's been happening since is occupation and resistance to occupation.

Good to see the non-existent "Populist" party agrees that Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the refeat-and-surrender caucus were full of crap when the proclaimed the war in Iraq lost not even a year ago.

April 13, 2008, 8:19 a.m.Time for the Iraq do-nothing "leaders" to step up to the plate and take responsibility for their own government.
End use of U.S. soldiers as Iraq police officers and stop the flow of more trillions of dollars to a do nothing group of Iraqi politicians.

April 13, 2008, 12:35 a.m.I agree with most of the article and really like when people call things by their proper names. I have to take issue with one sentence, however. The article says:
"We should never go to war unless there are tangible, identifiable benefits for the American people for doing so."
In my view, identifiable benefits are not sufficient to go to war. The author perhaps meant "Identifiable benefit" as necessary rather than a sufficient, but it's not clear enough. Some wars of aggression may have benefits for the aggressor, but that doesn't justify them. No country should go to war unless it's absolutely necessary to repel clear aggression by another country.

April 13, 2008, 7:49 a.m.It was always a wrong headed invasion. Iraq had done nothing to warrant our invasion. There were no WMD. Saddam Hussein was a tyrant to be sure. But what business is that of ours. The real reason for the invasion and subsequent occupation has more to do with oil and nearly zero about our security. And these are occupations, not wars. They should be terminated ASAP. That would do more to improve our relationship with the Middle East that almost anything else we could do. In addition, it would save lives and money.

April 13, 2008, 10:24 a.m.I disagree about our invasion of Afganistan. We had just cause for invading that country, the government was aiding and supporting Al Quiada, (or however you spell it this week) and Osama Bin Ladin. We should have finished the job there. They supported a massive attack on our country. And when they refused to turn over Osama, they warranted our attack.

April 13, 2008, 3:37 p.m.We have already lost in Afghanistan and should cut out the $40 billion per year that it is costing us.
An exit strategy in Afghanistan
Politics â;; Nato has evidently got itself into a colossal muddle in Afghanistan. Everything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong. It is far from clear why the alliance is fighting there at all, and what it is seeking to achieve. Talk of "victory" is a dangerous illusion.

April 13, 2008, 3:46 p.m.Notes From The Iraqi Resistance...
Transcript of an interview with M.Al-Shammari, ( head of the Islamic Army of Iraq/IAI )
1) Words of Introduction by Al-Shammari â;; in response to a question re.the surge and the IR.
Petraeus did not make any progress in Iraq. This is nothing but another lie in the series of lies started by Bush with his WMD's. There is no progress.
The Resistance has not changed its strategy which is the end of the occupation..
The Resistance did change its tactics but not its strategy. The Americans are desperate for some calm before the November elections, but the Resistance will decide when to implement an upsurge in its attacks against the occupier, maybe during certain "crucial moments" but this is up to the Resistance to decide when and how.
