"The once cosmopolitan city of Baghdad has been ghettoised. Entire neighbourhoods have been segregated by concrete walls built by the occupation army. The capital is pockmarked with military checkpoints. The Bush administration claims that the "military surge" it ordered is responsible for the dip in the casualty figures from the middle of last year to early this year. According to many observers, the real reason for the dip in casualty figures is the ethnic cleansing that took place for four years in major population centres."
I'd love to see that happen engineer but in all reality I do not think it will ever happen. Congress has repeatedly failed to do anything but talk and the world court- while having warrants issued- may not have the required authority to bring these as*holes before a judge.
The people of the United States may want it and clamor for a trial, but the fact is none of the members -well maybe two, or three would - will never vote for impeachment and a trial.
That leaves only two possibilities. Neither is a good thing. One would require a revolution - hopefully a peaceful one - but very unlikely considering the power wielded by those in control and their reluctance to relinquish that power.
The second is to just give up which is just as bad as the first, since it would not change anything. I believe that is what is referred to as being between a rock and a hard place.
We can only hope something good will happen and all this is just a passing folly.
Remember when some of the Nazi's were brought to the Hague years after the Nuremberg trials by the famous Nazi hunters. They didn't always have the authority either but it didn't stop them did it? One can only hope that the world courts will some day do their job and then leave it up to others if the US fails to cooperate.
There is one very important difference: the Nazis lost the war, and Germany was pretty well destroyed. The US is still the strongest nation on Earth, so I agree with Ghost; nothing will happen to the perpetrators. Sad, but true.
The USA is fading fast...hyper inflation, middle class unemployment increasing rapidly and a unfathomable debt which is out of control. The USA military services are overstretched and this is why they had to use the national guard in Iraq otherwise they would have had to institute the draft which we all know would have been the end of the war. It was an illegal war with the administration being at least complicit in the 9/11 attacks.
Yep. Inflation worse than Zimbabwe. Food riots in the streets. Agricultural production down 90%. Manufacturing production gone. Natural resources exhausted. Forest destroyed for fire wood.
And yet unemployment is at 5.1%. In 1996 under Clinton (best president ever) it was 5.6%.
How long can this go on before the government is overthrown?
Only you twenty eight- percenter conjobs have the wisdom, keen insight and special secret powers to discern what most of the US and the international community haven't yet grasped--Bush is not only the best President to ever inhabit the White House, he's the purest, most perfect and most infallible immortal to ever grace human kind with his presence. if only others could see what wingjobs see so very clearly, the world would be a much better and wonderful place and oil would flow like liquid gold and rainbows and lil fluffy kittens would appear 24 hours a day. ;-)
I would really like to believe that they will get a jsut punishment in the hereafter, however I don't believe they will and would like to see them get their just rewards here on earthfor their crimes.
Every one of you left-wing nut scape America haters 'ought to move to some of those third-world nations then tell me how bad it is where you live. Go live in the Ghettos of china, go live under the oppression of Putin in Russia, Go live in Darfur or Rwanda, go become a member of the chaste society of India, go live under Chavez in Venezuela, or under Castro in Cuba, or live on the border between Palestine and Israel or live in th spineless nation north of America called Canada where your not even brave enough to build your own army instead you rely on America to protect your a** then you complain about us. Just shut up and make your own nations better instead of beating on ours. Oh thats right you don't have the same freedoms we have that you complain about. Good thing you have Netscape to run your mouth on.
I think you are missing the point. Nobody is saying that it's bad to live in the United States, but it's probably very bad to live in Iraq in the chaos and violence created by the US occupation. Having a high standard of living does not give the right to a country to invade others without provocation. Starting a war of aggression is an international crime.
As far as protecting Canada goes, please don't. Keep in mind that the only country that has ever attacked Canada was...guess what... the United States of America.
yeah at what living off the government and letting them control every aspect of your life,,what an as@ kicking, you wont defend your own nation you wait for your govt to give you everything,,yea oh boy you are really kicking as# there chuck,,what a joke you canadian schmucks are
You appear to be the typical ugly American, so ignorant and full of yourself. Is it any wonder that the US is fast becoming a second rate nation. Why is it that when travelling abroad so many Americans wear Canadian flags?
Living off the government? What colour is the sky in your world? Greed is what has your country in it's current dilemma. Only in America would a second rate moron like Bush get elected for a second term.
Most Americans aren't typically like eyesopen. I'd argue the biggest reason the United States is in the position it is in is due to a failure to apply soft power as opposed to hard power. Also, the United States isn't nearly second rate unless you wish to consider most of the world second rate. Its simply in a position to lose its position as the "hyperpower" or the "American hegemony" or "empire" whichever of those three terms you prefer when referring to American dominance globally. Americans really need to remember that with a quarter of the world's GDP and the most powerful army in the world, that their choices effect the world more then the average country's choices. Electing a Bush Jr. can really mess the world up and a Bush Sr. can be quite good. No one always elects the best choices, but its very noticeable when the US elects Bush Jr. types because of how powerful the US is, globally.
Mdair...again the you're the voice of reason. Most of us Americans love our country and tend to "overloook" the bad situations our elected officials get us into. I've lived abroad most of my adult life and have heard many, many criticisms of the US, but the truth is that I have never lived anywhere so lovely as my home.
The sad fact of the matter is in many ways America is ignorant. I travelled the US quite extensively in my youth and one on one anyone would be hard pressed to find a kinder, friendlier, more generous bunch of people than Americans. But now, unfortunately it seems that if you get more than two or three of them together at a time, their IQs seem to drop about fifty points.
That effect doubles if the conversation includes politics, religion, gun control or anything that smacks of socialism. There seems to be some sort of bizarre group think that takes over. A group mind that accepts jingoistic, somewhat delusional rhetoric as fact.
In summary, Americans in general great people with the potential to create a great country, America, lumbering, slow witted, hubristic bully bent on creating the world in its own image.
"Keep in mind that the only country that has ever attacked Canada was...guess what... the United States of America" - Yeah - I saw that movie too. John Candy is NOT our official army! {;>D)=
"Every one of you left-wing nut scape America haters"
Seems to me you're the American hater here. Perhaps is is you who should leave the land of the free and go to one of those places that is not tolerant of dessent.
"Every one of you left-wing nut scape America haters 'ought to move to some of those third-world nations then tell me how bad it is where you live."
--So what you're saying is that if we adopted right wingers' stance--that of arrogance, nationalism, passivity and total acceptance and approval of everything your government does (that is, as long as it doesn't lighten your wallet or stop you from buying as many GUNS as you want), we'd be patriotic like you are? Cons amuse me to no end. I love how it's unpatriotic or treasonous to criticize your government's foreign policy but pretty much open season on government in most other aspects. For instance, we'll never hear a con say "Hey! Our border security ain't so bad. At least we're not Pakistan or Afghanistan. You SHURR-UP about mah country, ya hear!" Fact is, America is flawed when cons NEED to see them.
Pretty funny, in a pathetic sort of way, that the only person on your friends list is AG... and you only turn up every few day to spew your moronic bile all over anyone in reach.
You are AG, I presume...
By the way, all those places you name that we can move to are actually a step up from living under the Bush administration.
WE are the people; the government is no longer a representative of the people. Do we not each have the right to denounce injustice anywhere and by anyone?
As long as you believe and support your constitution there is no hiding from what your government does in your name. Sorry but no free passes here Spadecaller.
The government does not act in our name. They ceased to do so years ago. They have become a government unto the wealthy and the corporations.
Those who cannot see that are sadly not looking hard enough.
We have become a nation of the money loving. Who seek to enrich ourselves thru the suffering of the rest of the world.
There will be those who deny it. Because it hurts for them to admit that greed is what drives America now.
God is not pleased with us or any nation right now. So I'm sick of hearing how God loves America more. Yes he blessed us and we took advantage of it. We think we are great when it is God who is great.
Lets see we haven't won a war in how long. I mean a real war. That would be since WWII.
I wonder why? Could it be our fearless leaders have sold out for money instead of integrity.
Now I love my country but not it's leaders!!!! They are foul and evil men who seek to ensnare the world in their evil.
We are subjected to "state propaganda" from cradle to grave in true Pravda style. Many "patriotic myths" will have to go before change comes.

The Crazy Rev. Wright
.. In 1957, Doubleday released Richard Wright's White Man Listen. .. he wrote "...the greatest aid that any white Westerner can give Africa is by becoming a missionary right in the heart of the Western world, explaining to his own people what they have done to Africa."
..Nobody expects the media to educate the public about Africa. The current coverage is consistent with the images found in the Tarzan movies. I'll settle for missionary work among the American public. Free them from entrapment by corporate media, which are causing their brain cells to atrophy. Teach them other points of views that are smothered by noise, and trivialized on You Tube. Then maybe they'll understand where crazy Rev. Wright is coming from.
Cheney 1992 "going into Baghdad, and bringing down Hussien, would do nothing but create a quagmire"...of course, unless Haliburton got a 50 billion dollar contract to sweep the floors.
Have you noticed how few people, "now" voted for Bush!!
In the once cosmopolitan city of Bagdad, political dissent was answered with summary execution, often through painful and horrific means. Saddam's sons operated rape rooms with impunity. The underlying horror of Saddam's regime was whitewashed before the international community.
The violence we see now is how foreign-supported insurgents and indeed foreign mercenaries want to keep Iraq a lawless wasteland. With the help of mindless liberal politicians who seethe at the idea of a successful American intervention, they may yet succeed. Just as the North Vietnamese eventually wore down the ARVN a year after the US pulled out and all aid ceased. Then Iraq can become once again a sponsor and perpetrator of international terrorism.
The Mehdi Militia is lead by, and manned by Iraqis. Yes they have the support of Iran, but they are Iraqi Shiites. Our intervention at this time is just forestalling the inevitable. By bringing down Saddam we have merely opened this country up to civil war. This is the reason they didn't take out Saddam the first time.
"The once cosmopolitan city of Baghdad has been ghettoised. Entire neighbourhoods have been segregated by concrete walls built by the occupation army. This why Bush, Cheney, and his henchmen need to be tried for war crimes and treason before they escape to Dubai
