The images in the Basra police file are nauseating: Page after page of women killed in brutal fashion -- some strangled to death, their faces disfigured; others beheaded. All bear signs of torture.
The women are killed, police say, because they failed to wear a headscarf or because they ignored other "rules" that secretive fundamentalist groups want to enforce.
"Fear, fear is always there," says 30-year-old Safana, an artist and university professor. "We don't know who to be afraid of. Maybe it's a friend or a student you teach. There is no break, no security. I don't know who to be afraid of."

Thanks for posting this story.
What they are doing to the women is monstrous. This went on before we were there and it will continue after we leave.
The fanatics that do this seek to control thru fear and terror. They need to be destroyed themselves and they will be.
As far as they were better off before we invaded them. Yeah probably. But Sadam was one evil SOB. Of course so is GW Bush.
Hey you Bush supporters out there. How many innocents have died for his war on terror that has increased terroism. Given Islamic radicals new propaganda and recruitment material. Shown the world how morally bankrupt our nations leaders have become. Pushed this nation into debt deeper than ever before, with no positive returns except for the major corporations and share holders.
Yeah that Bush you just gotta love the incompetent idiot. NOT

Gas and burn me. I voted for him twice and I don't regret it - given the alternatives.

Yeah. It's all my fault. Gas and burn me.

I find it disturbing that one would state gas and burn me.
For there are those in this community that would take that with joy.
Now I may not agree with you on your political beliefs, but as far as I know that doesn't make you a criminal.
The same said for me. If you don't agree with me that is fine. We are not the ones making the criminal decisions that our politicians make.
I think we need to hold them responsible.
But I don't think anyon needs to be gassed and burned.

Hey engineer and cowboygrampa....
Fooled you both...it wasn't Bush at all! It was me. I'm the head neocon and I controlled it all.
Come and get me.

This truly is a crime against humanity. Things were definitely better for women before the invasion(as far as women's rights went). With the Shiite majority that we have put into power very little will probably be done about these crimes.

Terrible life that these women are having to live! I am afraid that this will never end, because it is a part of their religious beliefs!
I wonder if these men would like to be confined in attire that they expect the women to wear or to have little to no freedoms in their daily lives?
Thanks engineer!

Funny how the Islamo-extremists in Iraq (and throughout the Arab world) have killed and continue to kill WAY, WAY more of one another than we ever do. It's just the way it is - despite the fact that we're accused of being the cause of all the problems in that part of the world.
And a key difference is that we go out of our way to avoid hurting innocent civilians, while these nut-cakes kill innocents -- their own neighbors -- with a vengeance. They don't care how they kill 'em or where they kill 'em; in market places, in mosques, schools, you name it. And their society is filled with millions more who will gladly join in on the path of insane jihad...
So in the end, these guys have really managed to create their own hell-on-earth. And if we ever do leave, they'll be sure to keep at it (hopefully not taking too many of us out with them in the process.)

I wonder what violations of Islamic teachings the two mentally challenged Iraqi women performed to have bombs strapped on them before they went into a pet market. It just makes me wonder.
