In Honor of My Mother and the Power of Love

Do No Evil – "Our mother is the teacher who first teaches us love, the most important subject in life," he wrote. "Without my mother I could never have known how to love. There's nothing stronger than the power of a Mother's Love!

My Mom isn't perfect but I wouldn't trade her for any other in the world. She's WONDERFULL!!! I try and be a good Mom too, I wish everyone had a good Mother, I think the world would be a better place. Never thought I could love someone as much as I love my child.

Every child should have a good mother, it should be a given, sadly it's not though.

For me, it wasn't just about mothers. It was about all those who have gone before who stood for some ideals about treating each other humanely. And how when they leave us, we vow to carry on to be worthy of them.

It was also about the people who leave early because of injustice, unjust wars and inhumane health systems. It made me think of the young boy that died several months ago because he had an abcessed tooth and no health coverage.

It's true we often forget about the un-pretty sides of those who have passed. But they were, after all, human beings, with the same prediliction for their own private failings and faults. It is the good that they do that we must remember and emulate. Their faults and failings are ours to avoid and forgive.

Thanks bruhaha for the post.

Although it has been nearly 3 decades since my mother passed I still keep her last words to me close for they offer me both guidance and support. She saw raised 3 boys through sometimes rough and scary times and saw me through Nam and the crap years that followed and in her last letter to me she quoted a poem that began "When things get Rough - as they sometimes will..." and ended with the words "Cry if you Must - but never Quit!"

There has been many a time over the years when things have gotten rough and I wanted to quit, but each time I remembered her words and kept on. Thanks Mom.

JQP- It sounds like your Mom would have been very happy to know she gave you something to help you through rough times.
