Now some bloggers seem to want to follow their lead when it comes to the words they type into their blogs.

If you post something for all to see, you have no right to complain when people use that content. As a professional courtesy you can ask people to give credit to you.

if you don't like it get a patent on what you say, make, etc. and charge people to see or use it.

You certainly CAN copyright things that are to be publicly displayed, AND protect their value through the law.

Plenty of advertisements, for example, on billboards.

I think it is almost impossible to not copy what others have written or ideas they've come up with. How much originality is there? If someone coins a term or phrase and everyone starts to use it, at what point does it become common?

If I write something catchy in a blog and a paid writer uses it in an article they post should I get credit?

I think the author of the article makes a great point that if you copy someone give them credit and show the link.
