Posted by: Aidenag 8 months, 1 week agoThe attacks, exposed this week in a report by the government transparency group Wikileaks, include deleting detainee ID numbers from Wikipedia last month, the systematic posting of unattributed "self praise" comments on news organization web sites in response to negative press, boosting pro-Guantanamo stories on Digg and more.

Is this a surprise? The press and other media is pretty well owned by the neocons anyway. And it looks like it'll never be a free press again, it is governed totally in what you hear and see in America. Try tuning into web news from other places. Britain for instance. The press is manipulated for the benefit of the White House, otherwise Robert Novak would be in jail for treason.

I wonder if this is part of his job description or if this is punishable behavior?

Mamasan,
Are you complaining because someone in the military edited a wiki site? Are you complaining because someone who works at gitmo is willing to publicly say that what they are doing is ok?
THAT is worth burning in Hell for?
The claims of "covertly deleted from Wikipedia on Nov 1 and Nov 2, 2007 by Guantanamo staff" are ludicrous. Not that someone at gitmo didn't do it, but what was covert about it?
Was this gov sanctioned, or some guys in the military doing something on their spare time? Or even family that lives there? Did they try and hide their IP address?
FTA "Assange's group could not specifically identify who from Guantánamo made about 60 edits to Wikipedia entries on topics that included not only the prison but also subjects such as football, cars and television programs."
Compare this with kidnap, rape, torture and murder, and let me know why this is "burn-in-hell"-able, versus so much other stuff.

The military's efforts to alter the record by vandalizing Wikipedia are of a piece with the amateurism of their other public relations efforts: [such as] their ridiculous claims that released detainees who criticize the United States in the media have 'returned to the battlefield'.

Bush said in a subsequent phone call that there's no way to know if any of the 3,000 uniformed military at Gitmo was responsible for the documented changes, but he promised his public affairs staff was not behind it.

I'm certain one of the FoxNews talking heads is going to use erroneous information gotten from Wikipedia and I hope someone calls them out on it. That's one news source we can all do without.
