Senate bill, S. 1959, The "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007," to identify all Americans who have an "extremist belief system," as "homegrown terrorists," charging them with "radicalization," for "advancing political, religious, or social change."

"If you are trying to change this messed-up world with your radical educational actions (even if they are pacifist in nature) you will be guilty of "facilitating ideologically-based violence," for which you can be prosecuted. If you share your unapproved thoughts with other people and make them think like you do, then all of you are liable to be hauled-off for thought-crimes. Passage of this legislation to control the thoughts and communications of dissident Americans makes clear why our government needed to build all those 'FEMA camps.'"

"The purpose of the radical proposal is to:

"'...study the social, criminal, political, psychological, and economic roots of violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism in the United States and methods that can be used by homeland security officials of Federal, State, local, and tribal governments to mitigate violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism.'"

Not so far from the dark days of the Soviet Union.

Attention patriots, partisans, and professors, you have now become terrorists! I guess "reeducation" isn't so far off...

This is usually follwed by those who have identified the terrorists beginning their reign by terror on the population.

Seems to me the author is exagerating to the level of unacceptability to most Americans. A bill meant to punish offenses against "deviant sexual behavior" (ie, being gay) is blown up to criminalizing just thoughts! The article cites an RNC (bogus study methodology)study to validate the right's effort to trash a good intent:

"According to a study published by the U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee (July 15, 2003), a "hate crimes" bill sponsored by Sen. Ted Kennedy threatens to undermine and interfere with local law enforcement efforts. Under this bill, every crime that has the potential of being a "hate" crime will be federalized and federal prosecutors will freely intervene in local law enforcement efforts... This "hate crimes" language will criminalize the thoughts of those who commit the crime... This legislation puts criticism of these deviant sexual behaviors in the same category as racism, misogyny, and anti-Semitism."

And who will be interpreting what 'radical' is? And this "facilitating idiologically-based violence", who will be interpreting that? My, my. Guess I'd better watch my back, because if I think my government is wrong, I'm sure as hell going to say so.

        What do you expect!

They already passed hate crime legislation with very few complaints. They try to determine your "thoughts" then decide if you committed a hate crime

Exactly! What happened to the Constitution? I'm not backing down. FU#K the Gubment. They are supposed to be working for me, not trying to invade and control my brain!

And who determines who is an "enemy combatant" or a "terrorist"?

Now it seems Bush or any Gubment official, even the police can label you anything they want if they want to shut you up.

Isn't this like Nazi Germany or Communist Russia?

Our founding fathers are probably all rolling over in their graves.

If George Washington was alive today, he'd be the advocate of an other Revolution!

I believe that when political offices became a form of capital, and lobbyists became agents of corporations, we switched from a republic and form of democracy to outright capitalism, and lost everything our (american) forefathers fought and died for.

History shows there is really only one option left at this point to rescue what we held so dear, and took for granted.

Jefferson, in fact, advocated a revolution about every twenty years or so. We're only about 25 behind!

per your outdated link...passed in the House with 404 votes for and single digit votes against to study home grown terrorism... to prevent the next terrorist act. Amazing how the right (and the RNC specifically) will torture and conduct preemptive war, but now condemn a Dem law intended to prevent local terrorism as controlling their thoughts. Well, only bigotted people ought to be scared of this law!

This is like Dumya not wanting the 911 Comission, something that could have said how much he screwed up before, during and after 911! A Comission which has said we need to get smart on combatting terrorism, both foreign and domestic!

KYRed: No!! Actually that would be GW Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, .... Those who favor lies and deceit to cover their worthlessness. Free speech is the most needed freedom to maintain freedom. Bush knows that. He doesn't want a free America. He wants Nazi Bushland. Where he can maintain the control he feels he deserves.

Bush is no Christian. He is in league with the devil. Just like Hitler was. Hitler was a fake Christian as well who felt God wanted him to control the world.

At least right now you and I can have this exchange. What if the law passes? What if the power structure changes and it is "liberals" who say what thoughts are wrong or right? Either way the bill is wrong!! No one has the right to try and control anothers thoughts or conversation. There are laws enough about behavior enforce them don't add more laws to to create a society of robots.

Fu*k those who would take away our free speech and the right to communicate our thoughts of right and wrong.

The illiterate and the inarticulate are a danger to thought and speech.

I think huddling with your "team" at any cost (like some dumb@ss right wing sheep) while your government tries to crush others under its thumb should be punishable by death. But that's just me...

Imbecilic. The threat to American speech is from anyone who tries to limit it. There can be no threat to thought that does not render one insensible or unconscious.

Sounds worse than McCarthyism back in the 1950s and the Red Scare, but with shades of Minority Report and 1984 thrown in for good measure. It amazes how modernized we're supposed to be with technology, science and health, yet, our ideologies still originate from that of Salem 1692.

Though I'm not pretending on comprehending everything in this article, but the gist of it is, anyone daring to even think about something negative or controversial considered by our governmental branch will be branded a 'terrorist.' Oh, pardon me, a 'HOMEGROWN terrorist.' Amazing how the political label of 'witch' has transformed throughout the centuries into 'Communist', 'Anarchist' and now 'terrorist.'

Strange how many keep claiming we're free, and yet, the government has been keeping tight-thumbs on the media, the people and the country since it was founded by the colonists.

Wonder how long it'll be before our forums and blogs here are deemed 'Unpatriotic' by the government?

Your confusion and gullibility to this article is what killed the Fairness in Telecomunications Act and the Fairness Doctrine... the right/evangelicals just doesn't want to be further punished for their biggoted behavior. Sure the government needs to study the un-American behavior to prevent it. Then, once an offense to American equality (beit due to race, religion, ethnicity or sexual persuation) is made, punishment should be harsher. The oommited crime comes first, contrary to this distorted article!

I have already written my reps in DC to protest this act. (Not that it will affect Barry much - he doesn't seem to show up for votes much lately) I suggest you all do the same. www.congress.org makes it easy to do. No, they don't pay me to shill their site - it's just very convenient.

Truth needs no law to support it. Throughout history, from Galileo to Bruno to others seeking truth, only lies, liars, shills, and carlatans have resorted to the courts to enforce adherence to dogma.

"Who can quote a statistic like blacks commit 85% of inter-racial crimes without being called a racist?"

--Anyone who can can prove based on a consensus of professional opinion that this is true. So, there's your answer.

"Who can say that transvestites suffer from a psychological disorder without being called bigoted?"

--Someone who can prove that the scientific and mental health professional consensus is wrong. So, that would be NO ONE.

"Who can say that Radical Islam is a threat to the world without being called an Islamophobe?"

--Well, you can. Just don't bitch and cry from now on when when even your own fellow Christians believe you're as much of a threat (if not more so) as Muslims.
