Well ... so if you are a "christian" and you 'testify' that you follow Jesus and so you love your enemies, you can get discharged from the military?

No offense AT ALL to this specific soldier, but ...

WHY did he enlist in the FIRST place? Being a soldier DOES mean that you might have to kill someone while on duty.

And ... why does Lt. Watada get court-marshaled for not going to Iraq because he believes the war is wrong, but someone who claims that killing is against Jesus' teachings just gets a discharge?

The military is a GOVERNMENT, SECULAR entity, and there should be NO discrimination or special treatment for anyone because of their 'religion'.

    This is a GIGANTIC double-standard!!

But what about Lt. Watada? Why does he get punished and this guy gets a magic carpet ride back home?

It's heard to know a person's heart. If that is REALLY what he has come to believe, he could get himself and others who have to depend on him killed.

To "love your enemy" is a personal ethic, not a professional or vocational ethic. Sheesh...why can't people use their head when applying scripture.

I say smack the guy in the face and see if he turns the other cheek. Amish do...does he?

The apostle Paul taught, "He who bears the sword does not bear it in vain." And John the Baptist's instructions to soldiers was, "Be content with your pay." There's not one single word in the New Testament that addresses the discharge of political or martial authority by believers. Pity this guy's 2-bit seminary correspondence course doesn't teach him that.
