Do No Evil – Air America Radio host Randi Rhodes was mugged near her Manhattan apartment Sunday night, losing several teeth in a brutal attack that has knocked her off the air while she recuperates, fellow host Jon Elliott announced on his show early Tuesday morning.
It doesn't really sound like a mugging
- it sounds as if it was a BEATING.
I will hope that the NYPD investigates
vigorously and gets results!

Are you or have you ever been a New yorker? My friend was beaten by NYPD right in front of me as a young man. His crime fending off an another attacker who was trying to steal his jacket. A cracked rib and stitches to the head.
I was apprehended thrown to the pavement, handcuffed, shoved head first in to the back seat of a police car, hit with a billy club while walking with my college sweetheart in lower Manhattan. I was then taken across town to a subway station and presented to a woman and asked,"is this the one?" The lady said, "No that's not the one!" I was then released bruised and dirty. I tried to get their badge numbers, but when they saw me attempting to do so, they threatened me with the nightstick again. There are thousands of horror stories like that. So No, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Born and raised in Queens. I have seen some bad things that some policemen have done. However, unlike you, I also realize that its the exception, not the rule. You will find bad apples in every aspect of life. To expect perfection out of any organization or individual is obtuse at best. 95% of those who risk their life EVERYDAY for you and I are good people and do an excellent job.
However don't let me stop you with your hatefest and lumping everyone in one basket. I guess that's what you're good at.
Then you made my point for me. There is a possibility that they could have been in on it. Since no organization is 100% there's always a possibility. I said they PROBABLY were in on it. Read the statement next time before you jump to conclusions and try to lump me in to your predefined group.

It's a shame that Ms. Rhodes was beaten and I hope whoever did it gets caught but to instantly make it a conspiracy just because she's a darling of left (and a RAVING darling of the left at that) is just beyond bizarre considering NYC is not exactly a bastion of right-wing politics.

Let's just wait until we know more before we jump to any conclusions. I think it is irresponsible of John Elliot to say what he did. That's one reason why the conservatives can get such traction on their lies, slander and half-truths, they can point to things like this.
I agree that it sounds a little strange, but strange things happen every day and not just for political reasons. Let's wait until we get the whole story.
I gave you a plus, Bkumm, but Elliot does have a point. He didn't say "This is an attempt by the right wing hate machine to silence one of our own!" Instead he said, "Is this an attempt by the right wing hate machine to silence one of our own?" Big difference here.
I was listening last night, and he did NOT make an accusation. He POSED a question. And might I add that the right -wing talk show hosts actually DO make false accusations of the left on a daily basis.
So was he wrong to pose the question, given the circumstances? I don't think so...
But you are correct that we won't know the full story until all the facts are presented.
I agree that we shouldn't jump to conclusions. And I'd say that posing the question without evidence is just as provocative as stating it as fact.
but either way, it will be interesting to hear what Randi Rhodes has to say wben she's back in action. I've seen a few conservatives out here quote that old line that a liberal being a conservative who's never been mugged (or something to that effect).
We'll see. I highly doubt she'll change her opinions.

This very disturbing to me. Not to rush to judgment, but I agree with John Elliot....This does look suspicious.
It must be the zioncon facist regime. It's just too far fetched to believe that a thug would attack an unarmed woman in a big city like New York simply because she wouldn't/couldn't give him money. I mean, who ever heard of something like that happening?

These statements are atypical of a mugging or assault. It is however typical of a blackout drunk.

We'll see what comes out. There have been conflicting statements. Other anonymous sources, according to Fox News, have said that she was mugged but they added that there is NO evidence that it was anything other than a plain mugging. Rhodes and her attorney have said she wasn't. I guess eventually we might know what really happened.
But of course, you automatically call her a drunk.

Randi Rhodes was no more assaulted by a right-wing fanatic on Monday than Dick Cheney was. She, in fact, fell down and injured her teeth outside of a Midtown Irish bar at around 6 o'clock Sunday evening after downing about fourteen Ketel One Bloody Marys. She was abusive to the barstaff and generally gross, crass, loud, and pretentious. I genuinely hope she has a speedy recovery. I never would've disclosed this (I believe that anyone should feel free to hang out at Irish pubs at any time and not be concerned about someone publishing their behavior) if Air America hadn't grossly interpreted a drunken indiscretion and allowed it to be morphed into some bullish rhetoric on air. Whatever journalistic integrity the station may have ever had is now completely compromised. The manipulation of the public diminishes any cause, whether just or fabricated.

I agree, it sounds suspiciously like an attempt to get cheap publicity for a failing disaster of a radio program.
If she was mugged, it was probably by her own conscience finally catching up to her.
This story has been somewhat discounted, facts are unknown, and it appears there was no mugging.
