Why the US Government Is Hated All Over the World »

Something is wrong with the United States. I think most of us have noticed it. There is a mortal rot in the country, made manifest by many little rots that are hard to integrate mentally yet are, I think, somehow related. The change is grave, accelerating, probably irreversible, and fascinating. Things are not as they were.

pretty simple - the US government bases its military in 120 nations, backs coups and assassinations, wages aggressive wars and has killed millions in the last few decades.
Anyone who thinks people wouldn't hate us after this is ignorant or a liar.
We need a new direction - one where we no longer do these things. Then and only then - will we have peace and prosperity in this country.

Exaggerate much?
"Anyone who thinks people wouldn't hate us after this is ignorant or a liar."
Why would they be a liar?

Excellent comment, populist, sad and succinct.
As a long, long-term expatriate I can say the country's stock has seldom seemed so low, overseas, as during the last 2-3 years.
But the reassuring aspect, worldwide, is that most informed individuals (or at least the ones I meet)are generally aware that the American system carries within it fairly adequate means for its own renewal, reform, and regeneration.
The question most people seem to want to ask is when will process this begin?

Your broke, your military is loosing, your people have to arm themselves for protection because the police can't, your entire country is plagued with drug use and or violence, and the constitution you all cling to has been proven worthless as the government has ignored it. I'm sorry but there is nothing to be envious about.

You certainly are no economist either! The Chinese are buying our treasury bonds by the billions. We are so far in debt to the Chinese that if they decided to turn against us, the economy would collapse overnight! READ READ LEARN LEARN. Quit listening to the right wing propagandists on the radio!

So, people hate us because we are a strong determined people, and they would rather see us as weak tree hugging hippies ripe for the plunder.

XOOO- i think it is more like you are gullible, pompous, war mongering, full of a false sense of patriotism and where the president and an american flag clouds your ability to determine right from wrong, good from bad and just from unjust.. you rationalize all of your bad behaviour and have questionable family values..
you follow your presidents for no good reason other than the fact that your ego has been tarnished.. ie. vietnam, panama, iraq.. LBJ, Nixon, and surprise Bush and Bush...
i personally view the military strength of america as a plight not an asset.. perhaps if you had no military might you may substutute common sense for careless actions.
The dumbing down of the american education system certainly has worked.. if it isn't on the tv news, it isn't news.. most of your news services are controlled by similar thinking conglomerates..
it should be 'god help america', not 'god bless america'

There are good and evil people in both sides of a conflict, otherwise all conflicts would be as simple as the lord of the rings were you are fighting against a obvious enemy and not one embedded in modern global society.
The education system is another racket. They squabble so much money that if they had some sort of accountability structure for where that money they already get goes then education would not be a problem at all.
Also on a off note we should put tariffs on Chinese imports to make imports from them equal in cost to the American counter part and then the extra tax revenue could be used in America instead of in china. But who would buy Chinese goods anyway if they cost the same on shelves as the American counter part.

foreign states have their own sovereignty. What ******es them off is when they don't cooperate with us so we stop exporting our products to them or stop giving them money; for instance, Venezuela didn't like that we stopped selling them military aircraft components that they can only get from us now they make it a point to go a different direction than our country does. You're statement sound like you think these foreign countries have a wall built around them and we demand to go inside.

Actually, it might be more because they spend over 200 million dollars on BASEBALL PLAYERS. Why is this the only major American 'sport' without a salary cap? I'd rather watch paint dry, at least the fumes would give me a buzz.
And for all the hundered of millions NY is throwing away on your beloved Yankees, they still SUCK.

Because most of the world is run by dictators, crooks and gangsters who don't allow freedom because it will mess up the illegal business they are conducting.

The US is currently run by a dictator, crook and gangster who has spit on the Constitution and been conducting "illegal business" since he took the throne/office in the manner of wiretapping, eavesdropping, surveillance, detainees etc.

"Because most of the world is run by dictators"
Get off the porn sites and look up and see just how many countries have elected governments and more freedoms than the US. And an American bringing up Governments conducting illegal business to attack other countries is very hypocritical.

So, if we're so hated, why don't we bring home all our troops from every country, friend or foe. Then, stop all aid to these ungrateful countries, stop lending them money, call in all debts to us, bury our heads in the sand, and tell the rest of the world to kiss our a*s*s....I mean no aid money to ANY country, no help in disasters, NOTHING!!! Just tell them to go to Europe for help, or Russia, just stay the F*CK AWAY FROM THE USA!! Would this help you crybabies any? Just asking.....

vidman04:Yes it would be a start but be careful,9 countries sent you aid when Katrina hit before your Gov acted, also if you add up all the debt that every country owes over 25% of the total would be USA's,you are in financial trouble and don't know it,and as for the world being ungrateful that is not so;what is true is that you rub our nose in the fact that you have the wealth and somehow believe that the world is nothing but second class to you when in reality you struggle to keep up to us,a fact that you will never believe unless you get out of your shell. We are every bit as good, educated and proud as you and of our respective countries.

not if we call in the markers for ww1 and ww2 as well as the rebuild money we sunk in afterward.how about reprations from japan.it may also be time to revisit the iraqi people repaying us for librating them from saddam.do you think we could get reprations from mexico for the invasion in the south west?as for katrina while welcome and thanked for it is a drop in the bucket compaired to the aid the US gives in a single disaster.when you add up just the logistacal support our military gives to get the aid to where its needed its a astronomical number

You seem to forget something.
If you owe the bank $1000 and go bankrupt, the bank owns you.
If you owe the bank $1,000,000 and go bankrupt, you own the bank.
If the US goes under, so will the rest of the world, and the fallout would be so bad that pretty soon who owed who what will be the least of everyone's worries.

Then, stop all aid to these ungrateful countries,
Your aid is not interest free, you don't just hand out money to anyone, you impose your conditions to keep your Dollar from falling and that keeps the capitalism alive that is the only way you can exploit poor countries. Populist is correct in saying, (pretty simple - the US government bases its military in 120 nations, backs coups and assassinations, wages aggressive wars and has killed millions in the last few decades.) you blinds don't accept your wrong doing. Why are you in Iraq and Afghanistan? is freedom and Democracy means creating despotic and incompetent governments around the world? Most of the countries will better off without your help because they are eternally poor by paying interest.

That's why China is proving to be a hit with many countries, especially in Africa, because it provides the cash but it doesn't come with the same extortionist conditions.
All the while, it maintains a foreign policy of non-interference.
That's called capitalist competition. How ironic.
