Best Buy Confirms Existence Of Secret Web Store »
Posted by: Jordan 1 year, 6 months ago"In the wake of an investigation launched by the Connecticut Attorney General's office, Best Buy has finally admitted that the now-infamous 'secret intranet' (used to mislead in-store customers about BestBuy's online prices) exists. The website looks identical to BestBuy.com...except for the prices."

I freaking knew it! My roommate almost got screwed out of an extra couple hundred dollars on a new tv at Best Buy because of this - on the regular website it was on sale, inside the store on their internal website, it was considerably more.

There was a link on Digg the other day about how you can get a few hundred dollars off at stores like Best Buy. . . Basically, you ask for the extra long, super extended warranty plan. . . they'll be soooo happy that they take $200 off the price of that new 500'' TV you bought, but when you get to the front to check out, just "change your mind" on the warranty and keep the lowered price tag :)

This is outrageous.
"Barber insists that the company never intended to mislead customers." I notice that the article gives no other rationale for setting up the intranet site than to mislead customers, and, honestly, it's hard to think of one.

They only do this so customers see the deals online and come in because they really want that item. It's just free advertising which ends up charging you more.

I gave up on Best Buy when they screwed me out of an $80 rebate that was posted as being valid at the time of purchase. I mailed all the stuff in to get my money in time per the dates listed on the offer, but three months later I got back a note saying I sent it in too late. Pure BS, but of course I now had no proof to fight it. All I can do is vote with my wallet and warn other people they might best vote with theirs.

I hear ya ET. Best Buy and those stupid rebates!!! Looking at their Sunday ad, it's about 80% rebates. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, but rebates are screw jobs because they know only about 15% of the people actually return them, and fill out the forms right and on time. I know manufacturers need to use them to clear product off the shelf, but in this day in age there has got to be a better solution out there!

If you REALLY want to clear out product, give the rebate at the checkstand.
Costco has a great rebate system where all the info is printed right on your receipt, you go to their website and fill the info from the receipt into a form. In short order, you actually have your check. Now that, I can handle. But Best Buy, by showing themselves to be con men, have lost my business forever. I complied with ALL their rules and they still robbed me of my rebate.

I don't like Best Buy. They cheated me by taking my money and not refunding it back to me when I returned an item that I bought back to the store from which I purchased the item....Thy can go out of business and I for one would not miss them....
