Dec. 30, 2006, 1:48 a.m.The complicity of the main stream press has more to do with dismantling our democracy then even George W. Bush.
Some of us have held the belief, as I do, the fourth unofficial branch of government that also provides an invaluable set of checks and balances is the media.
Due to mergers and consolidation, corporate control of the media has led to the break down of true investigative reporting and the ability for Americans to get different perspectives on the news leaving Washington has been severely compromised.
This is an excellent story. Thanks spkguy!

If the media had not abandoned its true calling, investigative journalism, the Bush-Rove alliance would not have been so succeesful. In fact, they probably wouldn't hasve made it to Washinngton. But due to all the mergers, we get the likes of Fox News and a few others spreading the White House word and spinning the news in Bush's favor.

Dec. 30, 2006, 2:13 p.m.It was recognizable, years ago, that the main street press had left its roots of investigative reporting. That's when I turned to PBS, and began making yearly donations to help keep them going. STILL, Americans turn to CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, etc., for their information, and many feel that if they don't report it, it isn't true. VERY scary that we've put that kind of trust into the hands of a few. Scarier still, that some won't even consider information outside of our media to be viable.
I could feel the concern and frustration of that reporter coming through the 'you tube' video. What's the tipping point to get people to pay attention further than clicking on the 6:00 news?

The facts that are reported by the PBS's are called biased by you because the actual facts very very rarely support the bogus Bush agenda.. rich you can't possibly believe what you posted.

According to the New York Times, he was one of the few members of the Senate who saw the national intelligence estimate that was the basis for Bush's decisions. After reviewing it, Graham requested that the Bush administration declassify the information before the Senate voted on the administration's resolution requesting use of the military in Iraq. But rather than do so, CIA Director Tenet merely sent Graham a letter discussing the findings. Graham then complained that Tenet's letter only addressed "findings that supported the administration's position on Iraq," and ignored information that raised questions about intelligence. In short, Graham suggested that the Administration, by cherrypicking only evidence to its own liking, had manipulated the information to support its conclusion."
Why, this story and ones like it, just did not get the attention they deserved.

Whatever happened to those rules about consolidation of the media?
And where is our Congress. It seems they spend there time collecting contributions for the next elections and the real issues be damned.
As Eisenhower said, we need an informed citizenry. And we need it NOW.

The Reagan administration dismantled all laws governing ownership of media. Prior to that, there were strict federal guidelines which prevented the present system of just THREE individuals (all Republicans, by coincidence?) owning all commercial media outlets. Reagan also deregulated energy...saying in his speech that it "would lower the prices and increase the supply" The OPEC cartel ALWAYS has controlled the supply, and you know what has happened to prices. Reagan knew what he was doing, because, don't forget, Reagan, just like Bush, had lots of campaign finance favors from big oil to pay back. The national debt also spiraled out of control during the Reagan era...he, like Dumbya, promised smaller government and increased it exponenially.

Dec. 30, 2006, 12:05 p.m.The problem with the mainstream media is that the president has cut access to those who have published bad stories about his administration. That is why we have to have Public Broadcasting. Their access to the president has been extremely limited because of their publishing facts that the president didn't like. And, yet they still present one of the most unbiased looks at our country from both inside and out.
That is the problem with the current administration is that they are vindictive.

When Americans were not defending spying on other Americans with statements like, 'if you have nothing to hide, why worry?' When war heros of either party are trashed to allow a non server to become our President; a man who has never released all his records. Congree at least tried to work together for some mutual good. (OK, probably not a lot of tht but better than it is today with them serving themselves - not us.)
The corporations have always been there but seem to have mor einfluence under this administration. (Opinion)

As a staunch independent who votes and develops opinions based on the issues at hand, I for one appreciate the article posted. President Bush has been a detriment to the values that America has earned over the years. The one analogy that I can finalize with is the Fall of the Roman Empire. President Bush and his inner circle of corrupt officials and corporate greed will at least ensure themselves, as Congress has, a bright and rich future for themselves.

Dec. 30, 2006, 2:33 p.m.We did not connect the dots to stop 9/11. The government connected dots to conclude a WMD threat from Iraq and this threat was discredited after invasion. All other rationales were ignored. The voices of opposition in the UN were discredited when it was found they were corrupted with an oil for food scandal. When a lot of people believed there was a direct connection between Iraq and 9/11, the press appeared to have failed to inform the public. Now we supposed to believed the lie that the Bush administration claimed a direct Iraq and 9/11 connection. Now with less evidence, we are told by the internet to believe that 9/11 was a government conspiracy.
The disputes over WMD have long since come out. Even government funded TV has covered this. Bush was wrong and right about many things and stood to account in 2004. History will judge.
We can cherry pick history to create our own version of events. The main stream press has been a joke for 25 years. This web site is a joke.

When will we finally realize that a large percentage of the Islam faith has declared war against us and anyone who does not believe in their misguided beliefs? Prominent Islam leaders from around the world are telling us this every day. We are at war, and driven by our pacifistic media, seem sedated in a 'Love Thy Neighbor' peaceful rendition of the 60'. Unfortunately, the Muslim faith wants to continue a war driven by a thousand years of hatred. The problem is most of us in America are frightened to say anything, for we might be labeled as a bigot, or a raciest. How can a religion be so callous, and dangerous? No. Do I approve of violence in general? No. In fact, all three of us(neighbors and us) always have dinners, parties, get togethers, etc. and we are all just dandy and fine and are great friends. It's people like you who just believes everything that the media tells them and doesn't have proof or get information themselves that make these thoughts be spread and give people an undeserved name. Now, since you give Muslims such a bad name, how bout you go visit Palestine and see what the Israeli's are doing to them, then we'll see what you think of that. But please, don't even start spreading crap like that until you actually meet a Muslim and maybe, by some miracle, visit a middle eastern country(such as Syria, for example) and see how they act. We're all humans, and we need to learn to respect one another.

This has become so common that we consider it normal. I find a startling disrespect for human life is thriving in todays world. It does not matter what faith or political affiliation.
Making an enemy is quite easy as long as one has an opponent to demonize. IE: The Muslims or the Christians. Making a friend is much more difficult. Making a friend is always more worth while. I attribute much of the killing and discord to laziness. It's easier to fight and die than to try to see through the differences people have.
Try to remember that our percieved enemies are human beings too. I believe there is a common ground here. We need to try and find it. It may be more difficult than making war, however I think it would be beneficial to all of us to do so.
Hate and ignorance breed death and destruction. Let's try a different approach.

As I said before some of you people are not so bright. Try thinking for your self when watching a program, just go figure that some of it may be valid.
I have watched all the news networks and I find some of the items suspect. I don't take any of them on their word alone.
The operative word here is "Think". This you must do on your own. If you believe all you see and hear on your favorite station then it's possible you are being led by the nose. Do not for a minute think they have no agenda. They do have an agenda and it is not beneficial to myself or to you.
The agenda is show them the money and ratings. Other than that they could care less what we think. As long as we watch and suck up the adds they run, they keep getting the big bucks.
No one outlet has a corner on the truth. This I know. But try watching and reading opposing view points. You might actually learn something. Doubtful but maybe.

Bush has created his own problems. It is not because people dislike him. It is because he dislikes the people and what they think. Our president thinks he is somthing special. He is not.He is just an American citizen as are we all.
Mr. Bush's thinking that he is somehow above everyone else has resulted in problems of his, and his cronies,own making.
This is not the fault of the "liberal" press or the fault of people who just don't believe in his agenda. The fault is his and his alone.
Why anyone would stand behind and defend a person that has done such a poor job of managing our nation, I cannot imagine.
I don't dislike Bush becuse of who he is but I do have a great dislike for what he has done to our nation.

Yes, there was one attempt to say he went AWOL, yet this was proven to be forged documents.
Interesting that all of those who served with the current Pres. Bush had good things to say about him.
By the way when Pres. Johnson increased the US involvement in Nam, the first to enter were the Marines and the National Guard! Gee, Pres. Bush was in the guard, just not the units called up!
Sorry the same could not be said for Mr. Kerry who ran in the face of the enemy, came back after the enemy was driven off, & then deserted his post as Captain of his boat, just to save the "LAST" soldier still left in the water, then wrote himself up for a medical, which he got, just so he could throw it away on National TV!
So, you are right if talking about Kerry, but not Pres. Bush!

Oh, you can not count a drunken weekend side trip into Mexico as actually "leaving the U.S.". Also, his whereabouts has not been fully explained during the time, otherwise the need for his records to have been somehow destroyed and unavailable would not be necessary. But don't let pesky facts get in the way of your deluded sheep stance.
As for Sen. Kerry...well, if nothing else,,,the man can say that he served honorably and he actually touched enemy soil. Can your cheerleader pres say the same? No? then you should just STFU.

Bush refused to sign yes on his NG form to volunteer for a combat assignment. The plane he trained in was not used in V.N. Kerry jumped off his boat chased a VC sniper and shot him, this was testified to by EVERY man on his boat. Lets see; Kerry volunteered for combat and Bush refused, so Bush is the brave one. Hmmmm I think you provided proof you are simply an ignorant person.
